Welcome
and Introduction
Welcome to the Ecclesfield
School Virtual Community
website, the meeting place and discussion
forum for all ex-pupils and staff of
Ecclesfield School, Sheffield, UK. The
aims of the Community are to enable
members to maintain/renew contacts, and
exchange information; it is run by
ex-pupils, for ex-pupils, and is not
connected with the school.
Click here for a Personal Welcome
from The Author.
Read the rest of this page to find out
what the Community can offer you, and how
you can interact with it. If you aren't
an ex-Ecclesfeldian, then you are still
very welcome to look around - when you
get bored with that, why not pop over to http://www.school-friends.co.uk
to see if your old school has a reunion
site listed?
Contacts List
The core of the website is a Contacts
List which you can view and to which you
can add your contact details,
surprisingly enough, by clicking the View Contacts
and Add My
Details buttons on the left-hand nav
panel. We have provided a field in the
submission form so that you can link to
your own optional Personal Details page,
where you can expand on the information
supplied. To help you to easily create a
Personal Details Page of your very own,
simply load the template at Your Personal
Details Page and follow the
instructions. You will then have a page
which, when uploaded to your own site,
will look like the rest of these pages.
Mailing List
Join
the Mailing List, and participate in
the discussion forum. Once you have
completed the simple registration, you
will be able to post messages to the
list, and receive messages posted by
other subscribers; any messages you post
will be received by all the other
subscribers, so be careful what you
write! To post a message simply send an
email to ecclesfield-grammar@onelist.com
.When posting messages, please add your
O-level/GCSE year in brackets after your
name [e.g. Rob Tomlinson (1966) ]. When
you first register, please post a message
to introduce yourself to the other
subscribers. Past messages may be viewed
by visiting The
Archive.
Noticeboard
Got something you want to tell everyone
about? Then we have just the place for
you!!
Go to the noticeboard at noticeboard.htm
where you will be able to view and post
notices, and contribute to chat notes - a
great way to organise that reunion. Just
one more service from the Ecclesfield
School Virtual Community.
Passing Word Around
We would like to contact as many people
as possible, so please let any contacts
know about us. You can use the Recommend A
Friend form to send an email to your
friends which will outline our
capabilities. To see what it looks like,
send one to yourself - or perhaps that's
how you found out about us in the first
place?
Aedificemus
Magazine
The ESVC on-line magazine provides the
place to publish items of interest.
Send any articles, news, announcements,
anecdotes, reminiscences, photos, your
latest poem, or anything of interest for
inclusion on the site; address mail@esvc.freeserve.co.uk
. Alternatively, you can create a page on
your own site, and send us the address;
we will then link to it from the magazine
contents list. We have even provided
templates for you to use so that your
contribution will look like the rest of
the site (not sure if that's a good thing
or not!). Simply load the appropriate
template and follow the instructions -
you can choose from Your Articles
Page, Your
Photos Page, or Your News Page.
No Internet Connection
While internet-challenged people will be
unable to participate fully in the
Community, it would be nice at least to
have their contact details (telephone no.
and location perhaps ?), so if you know
any ex-Ecclesfeldians in this category
could you tell them about us, sit them at
your terminal and tell them to type. An
email address is required for the
submission form, so use the special email
address user@nomail.com
when submitting the contact details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Still unsure about something ? Then visit
our Frequently Asked
Questions page, or send an email to mail@esvc.freeserve.co.uk
.
Finally
If you decide to participate in the
Community, and I hope you do, then you
will be contributing to the development
(and dare I say improvement) of this
site. If for some reason you feel unable
to participate fully, then perhaps you
could leave your contact details, and
visit us from time to time to see what's
happening. If you bookmark the News and Views
page, then you will quickly be able to
find out how we are progressing.
Best wishes, Rob
Tomlinson (1966)
